Grove & Atrium Renovation - Hamilton District Christian High School

Awards2016 Award of Merit – Large Project

The multi-phase renovation of 7000 Sq ft Hamilton District Christian High School was an innovative exploration of ways for students to interact. To accomplish the clients vision, a two-storey addition was included with the renovation with offices and classrooms.

The addition housed the Learning Grove on the lower level and the learning Atrium on the upper level. Each area is filled with light, skylight and natural materials. Heavy timber beams support the 75mm deep deck and concrete floor, while timber columns and timber beams the two-storey open Atrium housing a living tree with conversation pit.

Electrically, the project required a complete design for power, fire, alarm, lighting and telecom systems. Key features include premium quality LED lighting and flexible power for students and faculty in collaborative areas, while maintaining electrical services in areas outside the project scope.
